Today in class:
Warm-up Activity: Money Matching

Math: Introduction to our coin activity:
Smart by Shel Silverstein

We worked with coins and related them to place value in the thousandths place. The objective was for students to understand that once a decimal is in the thousandths place is worth much less than a penny. We also worked on adding and subtracting decimals.

Money Actvities

Language Arts: We are completing a podcast about Anne of Green Gables. We also started reading a novel called Flipped. This story does a great job teaching students about perspective. One chapter is from the point of view of the main character, Julie and the next chapter is from Bryce's point of view. Both chapters are about the same incident.

Social Studies: We are currently working on the grasslands. Thus far we have read the general information from the textbook on pages 163-165 and completed the section review on page 165. We watched a short video about the grasslands. Today students will be building their own prairie on-line to discover which plants and animals can survive in symbiotic relationships. They will learn about some of the various forbs, flowers, animals, and plants that exist in different types of prairies. The following link will bring you to the website and the activity worksheet students completed.
Prairie

Science: Today in class we read the science text about the prairie biome.
